The school counselor will visit classrooms several times throughout the year. Classroom lesson topics will vary for each grade; please call your school counselor for details.
The school counselor also offers small group meetings. Small group topics depend on the needs of the students. Groups meet once a week for about six weeks and include 3-6 students. Group members are able to express their feelings, learn coping strategies, and benefit from the support of students dealing with similar circumstances. Group members also learn about the importance of maintaining confidentiality (e.g.keeping what is discussed by other group members within the group).
Parent permission is required for students to participate in a small group with the school counselor.
Your child might bring home a permission slip or you can contact the school counselor to request the form and to ask questions.
